"Get the fuck up, (L/N). Dirt doesn't suit you even if you're a shit."

Your eyes snapped quickly to the raven haired corporal, your sparring parter all but helping you get up in this situation. You knew you were bad at hand-to-hand combat. But with giggling like a girl, the guy didn't fucking show that he was anywhere higher than the dirt he managed to put you in with brute force alone.

With a sigh, cheeks dusting over ever so weakly with pink due to your superior noticing your third-in-a-roll fail, you got up and dusted yourself, rubbing your sore bottom. You brought your hands in front of your chest in fists, trying to defend yourself - your parter giving you a nasty smirk before stricking for your side with a kick. You blocked and turned defence into attack, managing to catch him off guard with a single punch to the side of the face.

When pride overwhelmed your insides for finally landing a proper blow on your opponent you lost focus on the battle and the guy kicked you in the gut, grabbing your head with his calloused hands and kneeing you in the face then sweeping you off your feet again and making you fall back into the dirt with a heavy thud and a pained "oof". Your nose hurt like hell and you could feel the blood dripping from it onto your upper lip.

You heard a sigh behind yourself right after glancing up at the taunting smirk of your opponent. You turned around to look whose that desperate sigh belonged to, facing no one else but your corporal - crouching in front of you with his usual frown.

"Get up and go get cleaned up. I told you dirt doesn't suit you." He stated, getting up himself and glaring ahead at your sparring partner. You furrowed your eyebrows in insecurity, quickly getting up and dusting yourself off then heading for the insides of the building to get yourself cleaned up.

Five minutes later when you came running back you saw the guy that was supposed to be your partner lying on the ground unconscious - blood dripping from his nose, hand standing in a rather inhumane way by his side. When you looked away from him and your eyes met your corporal's your features softened from surprise and shock into gratitude and happiness as you smiled in his direction and he only huffed.

[II]

"Petra, Lance Corporal said he wanted you to make his tea." The ginger turned around to look at you, a flicker of despair flashing across her amber hues.

"Right now?" She did look quite busy but you didn't know what to do if she had enough work to keep her away from doing as the corporal had requested.

"Y-Yeah." You nodded your head and the expression on her face just grew even more desperate, it was obvious she was wondering what to do herself.

"(Y/N), do me a favor."

You nodded in return to her words, seeing as she was in a hurry. You could see she wanted to help Oluo with the 3DMG check-up and she had to do her own as well. You have clearly heard earlier today that she was on stable duty with Gunther as well. This was bad for her. You could at least help her right now.

"Please do Corporal's tea for me. The trick is to leave the leaves to soak before pouring the tea. He likes it with a spoon of honey and a little milk, no sugar."

"W-Wait, you mean to say I have to lie to him that you made the tea?! But what if I don't do it properly and he senses so? You could get in trouble because of me!"

"I will get in trouble either way it seems. If I don't do my chores it will be worse, though. Please, (Y/N), just this once. I beg you." With a sign in defeat you faced the other way and headed straight for the kitchen, knowing something bad was bound to happen. You couldn't cook for your life just as well. You didn't know if preparing tea was indeed in the cooking department but you would surely understand pretty soon.

Five minutes later you knocked on the corporal's door, hearing his muffled answer and pushing the door open with your back while balancing the tray with his tea in your hands. You slightly kicked the door closed after making your entrance and headed for the raven haired man's desk, placing the tray down slowly, making sure the steaming beverage wouldn't spill.

You observed as the corporal took a hold of the rim in his claw-like grip, lifting the cup to his lips and inhaling the scent before sipping and then placing the cup down with a slight clink.

"Thank you, (L/N). It's not bad for a first try." He hummed while his eyes skimmed the paper in front of him, gaze browsing the countless names of soldiers that were written down.

You flushed and fiddled with your hands, gulping down the knot in your throat and saying: "T-Thank you but I just brought it here, sir."

You could bet the amusement that flashed in his smoky hues wasn't because of something he saw on the paper.

"Yeah, whatever you like to believe in, cadet."

[III]

"I'd like for you to stay back today." Mike's hand was steadily placed onto your shoulder as you frowned and looked at your feet. It was never your plan to get yourself hurt right before the expedition. Why couldn't you go now? You were sure you'd do just fine, it was just a sprained ankle.

"Why?"

"I think it would be more convenient." The blond stated softly then looked at you with his hopeful eyes, managing to make you look up at him as he smiled slightly. "No one from the squad would want you more hurt than you are now, (Y/N). You're a precious asset to my squad and I want you to be fine. Okay?"

"Yes, sir." You didn't salute but the loyalty could be heard in your voice as you glanced at the horses already being prepared for taking off.

"Plus..." Your gaze was directed back towards your squad leader as he spoke with a small smirk. "I think not only me and the rest of the squad would be worried if you were to come. Lately, I think I can smell the worry that's suffocating him when he's around you."

"... Him, sir?" You took a pause before your superior dismissed you with a heartfelt chuckle, rich of amusement and deep in tone - highly entertained.

"Maybe he'd tell you himself some day." Mike left with that comment and galloped ahead after getting on his horse, going to your squad and making them take their places in the formation.

Before they could take off your eyes stayed pinned to a particular raven haired figure that was staring coldly ahead and conversing with Hanji. For a split second you thought he looked back and your gazes met, making you flash him a smile, which he never returned but definitely saw.

You didn't know if the nod and slight glance you saw him give you right before they took off were just your imagination or reality. Both would be fine as long as he comes back alive, though.

[IV]

"You're here again."

When you turned around to look at the source of the baritone smooth voice, you were met with the raven's smoky hues as he expected an answer out of you from his place right beside the tree trunk you had seated yourself in front of.

With a slight sigh, you faced the front again and your eyes took over that depressed look they've had since the last expedition with the exception that they stopped glassing over every time you would think about the consequences, though.

"It's been a month already. The brat may have been important for you but 30 days are too much for a mourning person." To your biggest of surprise the corporal sat himself right next to you on the green grass and observed the scenery ahead just as absentmindedly as you did. "What was he anyway to you? Boyfriend or something?"

"W-What, of course not!"

"Then why are you depressed for so long after his death?"

"Davin was important to me, sir."

"Levi."

"I'm sure you yourself know what it is to lose someone important, so do acknowledge the fact that the sadness never really goes away... Levi." He snorted after you ended your sentence with his first name, making you flush red despite feeling depressed. It was the first time you've actually said it out loud and even more in front of him. "And he really... wasn't my boyfriend."

"Fine. Take your time to calm down and participate in duties again. If this takes any longer, I'll have to force you to." Levi slowly got up from the grass, dusting himself off anything that could've dirtied his clothes, then looked down at you as you nodded and stated:

"Yes, sir."

"It's still Levi." He corrected and you chuckled, while saying:

"Okay. Thank you for the time you've given me until now, Levi. People say you're cold but you understand more than you let out." The warm smile that accompanied your last sentence was heart-melting but Levi just glared and snorted while walking away, leaving only a comment behind.

"That's only an illusion of your delusional mind, cadet."

"Not as much as you'd wish for it to be, Levi." You mumbled with a small smile on your lips.

[V]

"Don't tell me, he actually told you to stay behind again. I feel that something is about to happen!" Hanji's nasty face was more than you could handle early in the morning and so with a slight flicker to her forehead you tried to delete the naughty thoughts she was having and prevent them for intensifying further more.

"Corporal just asked me to go to his office so I could help with delivering the finished report to Commander Erwin. Nothing else, Hanji."

"But you do have the hots for him anyway, don't you?" The question made you dead-pan not because it was annoying but because it was embarrassing and all too obviously asked to make someone turn their attention towards your conversation.

On the other side of the wooden table the figure only barely glanced up while drinking their tea. You were able to pinpoint the slight nonchalant surprise and wonder on his face and you rolled your eyes, raising your eyebrows and gesturing with your thumb across the table while asking:

"He's across the table, you know?"

"I do." Hanji's seriousnes was almost as steady as your own indifference to the situation. Quite embarrassing situation if you had to say it with one word. Did she not know how to keep things to herself? It wasn't like she actually had evidence you 'had the hots' for Levi anyway, though.

"It's plain admiration. Don't imagine stupid stuff." You shrugged her off while picking up your own cup of coffee, sipping a little before scrunching your face up and leaving the cup down. Bitter stuff were the best when you had to wake up even though their taste was anything but pleasant. However, it could be said that you were used to it by now.

"You're keeping your cool quite much, (L/N). How's that so?" You looked towards the raven whose words rang right after your late answer to Hanji's second question.

"The new cadet - Mikasa - has been giving me lessons about staying composed. I think they work." You smiled slightly while staring down at your tasteless food, knowing you'd end up eating it anyway since it would be the only thing to enter your mouth for the next five or six hours and you did miss dinner yesterday.

"That so?" His tone surely wasn't hinting it but you managed to catch the unpleasant distaste behind his carefully picked nonchalant words. Then his tone went on the other end of things as the man checked the report he had brought with himself this morning as indifferently as ever. "If you wanted lessons on how to stay composed you could've just asked me. They'd be private, no one would interfere."

A blush suddenly arouse on your cheeks, your mind traveling to things you were better off not imagining in that single moment. "W-What are you talking about so suddenly, corporal?!"

Shit, I'm dead. All those lessons for nothing. Was the rational thought that crossed your mind as you looked at Levi's satisfied face from your reaction.

"YOU DO THINK ABOUT THOSE STUFF AFTER ALL, (Y/N)!" Hanji's loud voice rang in your ears and you could feel yourself getting even redder as you glared at her and then your gaze was directed back towards Levi when his reply was voiced out.

"The lessons don't work perfectly after all. Maybe you should come and let me teach you better in the end." The small ghost of a smirk that rouse on his thin rousy lips was able to make your knees wobble under you as you felt your reaction run ahead of your rational mind.

Your hands slammed on the table as you shot out of your seat - cheeks as red as a strawberry, heart beating erratically in your ears - your face anything but it's normal color and honestly, you were sure anyone could hear it.

"IT'S PLAIN ADMIRATION!" You stormed out of the mess hall as soon as you screamed those fateful words in a high-pitched and loud voice, leaving Hanji to stare after you with sly expression.

"Thanks for the help." The brunette turned to face the raven haired man with a sly grin and he only huffed, rolling his eyes and then directing them back to the report in his hand.

"Don't even mention it. It's only because of the fucking bet."

[VI]

"As stubborn as ever." A jacket was placed over your shoulders and you turned around to look at the person who gave it to you. The voice was enough for you to recognize him but you needed to look at him straight in the eyes at least when you were thanking him.

"Thanks, Levi." You mumbled with a small smile, wrapping your jacket securely around your form. After you had run off to enjoy the snow you had forgotten all about health and keeping warm and stuff like that, so Levi had taken your jacket and took it upon himself to bring it back to you.

"Don't fucking forget it next time." He huffed and the air of dissatisfaction exited his nose as a white puff, evaporating high up in the grey sky. You smiled again, not really minding being cold if you got to enjoy the view. And even more if it was with him.

"Okay, I won't."

"That wasn't sincere." He commented, making you laugh because of how fast he noticed the nonchalance you stated it with. "Promise it." He ordered and you smirked.

"Pinky promise, Corporal?" You teased with an outstretched pinky of your right hand and he rolled his eyes then glared at you, making you laugh full on. But before you could retract your hand back to your side you felt his pinky tug at your own and your eyes widened.

"Now promise." He stated coldly and you bit the inside of your cheek, avoiding eye contact for a short span of time before looking back at him and grinning.

"I promise I'll take care of myself."

"That's better. Now let's get inside." He let go of your pinky and stuffed his hands back in the pockets of his uniform jacket, turning around when your words stopped him.

"I'll be staying here for a little longer. You go ahead without me."

His smoky hues darted towards your form for a second, eyes narrowing but in the end he just sighed and agreed.

"I'll be making your tea in the meantime. Get back in the next five minutes, brat."

And with those words the raven haired man was off back to the headquarters, huffing white puffs inbetween his steps while you stayed back and turned with a smile towards the snowy landscape, heart beating erratically in your ribcage from his words.

Even though it was freezingly cold and you couldn't feel your limbs at all, the small place on your pinky where your promise with Levi was sealed was radiating more than enough heat to make your insides warm up.

[VII]

"You have to come this time."

"Yeah, I know. I could've came the last time as well but Mike said I shouldn't."

"It was for the best. And it would be even better if you stay behind again this time." Levi commented with a straight face as you both overlooked some documents regarding the HQ taxes back in his office. Two weeks ahead there was a new expedition settled and somehow you didn't feel too good about it, although you couldn't just say 'Don't go everybody, I have a feeling in my gut that something is gonna happen' .

"I'm really starting to think you're being concerned." You stated with a slight frown upon your features, because the freaking sums wouldn't be in fucking normal numbers. Damn it all to hell, you had to do the calculations all over again.

As you started scratching over the many lines of numbers on the paper, you realized Levi never gave you his reply. With a small twitch of your eyebrow in what you guessed was anticipation of the worst or the best you looked up to the corporal's face and for your biggest of surprise saw him staring right back at you.

By the silence in the room you could've easily guessed he just ignored you but by the looks on his face it was surely a hard time for him to answer. You wondered why but you didn't dwell on it too much. Levi was Levi and he always had his reasons.

"Because I am." Finally his reply was out of his lips and into the afternoon heavy air in the humid room, making you gasp and then stare at him with a surprised expression for the next five seconds, your hands pausing over the paper.

"Why?"

"Because you're important." Came the instant reply and you slowly placed the paper and the pen down, staring at him as if he just said he wanted you to bear his children. He could've meant a lot of other things with the word 'important' but to you it sounded a lot like confession of a kind. Weren't you supposed to be the one liking him anyway?

"You're important to me, too."

"But I have a bigger chance of surviving even if I'm on my own." He reasoned, making you scowl at him with a pout.

"So you think I can't handle things myself?"

"That's not what I said."

"Then what did you say? You were implying something for sure. That I'm weak or that I always need some kind of help?" You asked with an angry but still cold tone in your voice.

"I said that I have better chances of fighting my way out of a dead end. While you have those chances only with a team by your side."

You snorted in dissatisfaction, placing your hands on the side of the desk and pushing yourself up, frowning down at the indifferent Levi. "Well, fine. If you say so. I'm gonna go and make some tea now." You were out of the room as things like 'You're important to me' and 'Because I am concerned about you' flying out of your mind before Levi even had the chance to say---

"... You barely made tea ten minutes ago."

[VIII]

For the past week you've been ignoring Levi's silent requests to talk in private and thus blocking any way for him to indirectly apologize for the small fight that occured in his office. He didn't want to make you upset but you were hot-tempered when it came to your abilities in battle and so that topic was kind of a taboo for you in private conversations. He now knew that. So, he wanted to apologize even if it wasn't his fault.

Because after all he was just trying to clear out the point that he didn't want to lose your company.

And that intention of his counterattacked, forcing him into a corner.

He was in the mess-hall, a few hours after curfew, reading some papers he had to hand over to Erwin but his thoughts were really settled only on you.

He placed the report he had to revise and edit onto the wooden surface of the table and sighed as his fingers pinched the bridge of his nose. He was getting a major headache and he was getting reckless, spacing off in thoughts of you instead of doing his work.

Maybe if he worked out he would get you off his mind.

But his feet stayed rooted to the floor and his body didn't move a single muscle.

Then he heard footsteps and his head slowly tipped upwards to face the incoming individual, about to be scolded. The insults that lay on the tip of his tongue all disappeared when he saw you enter through the doors and shoot him a surprised glance. Your eyes then avoided his for the rest of your small journey from the doors and to the kitchen, where you started making something away from his intense gaze.

By the clattering and clinking coming from the kitchen, Levi could vaguely guess you were preparing tea or maybe coffee. A few minutes later you returned from the kitchen, once again your form catching his gaze as he tried to ignore the urge to speak to you. In your hand there was a small tea cup, steam exiting from its contents.

With a few big and quick steps, you were by Levi's side, placing the cup by his report and stating: "It's for you. I hope you enjoy."

You were out of the mess hall before he even got the chance to open his mouth and thank you or apologize or even mutter anything as a reply as a whole. Your gesture stunned him into surprise and an image of how red you were as you said that settled in his mind. Apparently it was your way of apologizing. After all, you made him tea. The air was heavy with the "I'm sorry" vibe, too.

He looked down to the cup with steaming black tea and a small smile graced his lips.

[IX]

"Are you sure you're ready?"

"Of course."

"Promise me you'll be okay."

"Pinky promise, Corporal?"

Your pinky was tugged at as his wrapped around it and you blushed again but this time surprise wasn't onto your features. His gaze told you to say it already.

"I promise you I'll be okay." You stated with a smile and he detached his pinky from yours, his hands going back to his side.

"Good." He nodded and was about to turn around when you called his name.

"I just wanted to tell you something." Your gaze avoided his yet once again and he felt the air getting slightly heavier. Was there something you really wanted to share with him right now?

"Hurry up, we'll be called any moment." He stated with a frown as his eyes glanced to the window in slight worry. He knew he had to place his squad into the formation, he had to fucking tell Erwin everything was fine, he had to make sure all their horses were well mounted. Fuck, he didn't have time but for you he'd listen. He never knew if he'd see you after this expedition anyway. So he listened.

"If you want to I'll tell you after the expedi---"

"No, say it now." He stated harshly, making you almost surprised by the determination he oozed. Maybe he didn't want you to make a promise you wouldn't be able to keep. Or he just wanted to get over with it as soon as possible. You bit the inside of your cheek, hearing someone call your name from the outside. It was probably one of your squadmates. You had to hurry, too.

"I like you." The words seemingly cut the air of tension only to make it even heavier. It was suffocating you to an extent as you stared at Levi's deep gunmetal orbs.

"... I know." His words startled you but not as much as the nonchalance they were pronounced with.

"Y-You know?" You asked and he nodded with a small roll of his eyes. Both your names were getting called from the outside by now. You had to get going. Both of you.

"Yeah, I like you, too. Now what?" He asked with his hands crossed in front of his chest, making you blush as you realized he didn't take it the right way. With a small intake of breath you stated it in a way that would make him understand.

"But I meant it in the romantic way, Levi."

"Oh." You haven't heard him make that kind of sound once in all the years you knew him. Around three or so. Nope, not once. And you didn't know if it was good or bad. The sound by itself seemed innocent as if a kid just got the right meaning of a thing it had a wrong impression of, but you couldn't even start guessed what would that mean for Levi.

"But as I said." He stated and got you out of your thoughts. "I like you, too. So I promise I'll keep you safe. And now what?"

Before you could answer you were both called and that snapped you out of your dazes. You didn't answer Levi but already having told him you liked him made your heart lighter and you were now more confident. Of course, everything had its risks. But now you were just going to face them with bigger eagerness so you can return to Levi once this expedition was over.

[X]

"You fucking promised me." His voice was angry but the sentence wasn't an exclamation, it was just loud because of the many other noises around.

"I guess I really did." Was your reply with a small wry smile as he rode by the cart that you were in.

"Fucking shit, stop talking like that. Just look at me, it's not the shitty end. We're near the walls. Hold on for a few more minutes." He tried to assure as all horses sped up immesely even though both the animals and their riders were tired from the battle. You were all fleeing from the mission, the expedition was uselessly enough a fail.

"Levi."

"What?" He looked down at you again, his knuckles turning white as they clutched the reins of his black stallion.

"This is so uncomfortable to ride in. The road is so fucking bumpy, too. I'm not riding in this ever again." You commented, blood sputing out of your mouth as you coughed up after the cart went over a bump on the soil.

"Are you in pain?" Levi asked with concern etched onto his deep features and you just looked up at the sky, trying to balance your breathing with a small ragged sigh.

"... I feel like I'm dying." You released a breathy sigh after your sentence, trying to fight the knot that was tied in your throat. "But I'll tell you this," You stated afterwards, with eyes pinned to the sky above. "It's beautiful. I can't even hear the horses or soldiers screaming left and right. The sky is bright and the clouds look like cotton. Have they always been this beautiful? I wonder. And if I turn my head to the side like this---"

You tilted your head to the side so that you faced him and his eyebrows furrowed.

"It gets even better. You're so gorgeous, I don't know if you're real. I've wondered that same thing my whole life. Good people die fast but I'm not a good person. You, in exchange, are. And honestly, I'd die in your stead if it means that the world gets to keep your kindness for a few more years. Just don't make that face, please. I don't deserve that face." You smiled gently at him and his jaw clenched harder, feeling that if his teeth weren't gritted his bottom lip would start trembling.

He realized his eyebrows weren't drawn together anymore, his eyes felt watery and he could bet he looked fucking weak but losing another person he had opened up to, considered important, couldn't actually be happening... again. His gaze fled for a moment towards Petra and Oluo, who you had saved with the price of your left leg and half of your right arm.

"Fucking shit." He blinked furiously, clearing out the transparent liquid that had built up at the ends of his eyes and his orbs settled back onto your form.

"This feels nice. The weather is nice. Both yours and mine squad are alive and well, I couldn't really wish for more." You continued with the santimental talk and his face twisted in a pained one but he didn't speak up yet. "I like you."

"Stop talking as if you're going to fucking die. Just five minutes, (Y/N). Fucking five minutes." He stated, glancing at the wall and then back to your form. "You're going to be okay. And you'll live. You'll be fine." It didn't sound as if it was you he was trying to lie to with that. It was himself he was trying to persuade that it would happen that way.

"I really like you." You repeated with a smile and felt the pain in your leg subside, it was already growing numb which was probably... good?

"Stop saying that." He scolded with a stern face because otherwise his whole facade would break down.

"I like you very much."

"Really. Stop it, (Y/N)." He was facing the wall feeling the desperate need to be faster, to bring you back into the town faster.

"I love you, Levi." You smiled again and he bit the inside of his cheek in an attempt of keeping his composure in check.

"I fucking do, too, okay?! So sto---"

When he turned to face you, Levi witnessed your eyes closing as you rested with a smile on your lips. He stared hard at your chest, trying to indicate a breathing pattern, but there was no such thing he managed to see. In a small moment of panic, he called your name weakly, then again and again and again, louder with every time but you never gave a reply.

"(Y/N), fucking reply, you brat!" He was growing hysterical slowly and he could feel how his horse ran through bumps, jumped lightly to avoid others and soldiers still screamed over the wind to others.

The horses around the cart where your limp body lay though, were all silent and staring ahead with stone-cold faces. They've most likely heard everything. They've most likely seen everything. They've most likely seen your last seconds. They've most likely witnessed his weak moments. But he couldn't afford to give a fuck right then and there.

His hand went over his eyes, rubbing both of his temples simultaneously as his teeth gritted again and he closed his eyes, feeling his breakfast crawl up his throat along with the tears that almost filled his eyes. He tried to take large breaths and calm himself down, he tried to regain his composure but he could feel how the sky grew times uglier than before, how only the wind howled into his ears while everything else was only white noise and how much exactly his chest was feeling as if it was in a titan's grip.

"... Didn't you fucking promise me?" He mumbled weakly in a hoarse voice, the knot in his throat getting more tied up by the weak words. A few moments passed in which Levi's thoughts were all but calm. They were chaotic, still tangled in images and memories of you - your smile, the way you acted around him - and everything about you he could get his hands on.

"Corporal Levi, we're about to enter the walls." A soldier's voice snapped him out of his daze, his hand was back to clutching the horse's reins and his expression was now back to being like a stone - furrowed eyebrows, pursed lips and glaring eyes, glistening with blinked away tears.

"Good, keep up the current pace. And someone cover cadet (L/N)'s face fast, her parents must be in the crowd." His tone was cold and intimidating as usual but the cadets around the cart could feel the struggle they were pronounced that way with.

A man rode his horse closer to the back of the cart, jumping onto it and taking a rag from the corner, then throwing it over your face so that it didn't show your identity. He didn't intend on getting off the cart so a comrade of his led his horse along with his own as all of them entered through the gates. In the crowd Levi's eyes quickly managed to find your parents' smiling faces, he could see how their faces quickly fell as they didn't spot their child amongst the soldiers.

In his peripheral vision Levi could see Petra talking with her father with a big grin and in the same time his eyes were pinned to your mother's tears and the glare your father shot in his direction.

He gulped down the lump of fatigue and pain and faced the front again, knowing pretty well that he broke a promise that day as well.

Why do you have to kill me in the feels?
